Happy
New Year NYAC! Welcome
back and it's good to write to all of you again! NYAC
has lots to celebrate with many of its athletes having a fantastic team travel
meet at the Baltimore Christmas Classic held at the Annapolis Naval Academy in
December. As Coach John Calnan states in his article on our website, it was full
of "magical moments". Also
in the news, our Michelle Williams has made NYAC so very proud competing for Team
Canada at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Guam in January. I am looking
forward to reading her Q & A on our website on her experience. Congratulations
Michelle! I would
also like to congratulate our sponsor, Absolute Endurance Training and Therapy,
on their 1st year anniversary! They are the official health and fitness, training
and testing facility for NYAC. They will be having an open house on Saturday January
17th from 12 - 5:00pm. For more information about AETT or regarding their Open
House, please refer to their bulletin,
or visit their website, www.absoluteendurance.com. Looking
ahead, we enter into the end of Short Course Season and watching our swimmers
strive to achieve personal bests and qualifying times. Our groups will have varying
meet schedules over the next several months and any questions can be directed
to your coach, your pool representative or the office. NYAC
is part of an exciting opportunity in March by officiating in Spring Nationals
at U of T. Parents from Youth, P1, P2, National Development and National group
are generously helping us participate, through their membership requirements of
2 sessions, on Thursday, March 12 and Saturday, March 14, 2009 (details to follow
soon). I realize that this may be challenging in light of your lives and other
personal commitments, but I would like to reassure you that by volunteering you
will be helping support the sport of swimming in Canada and will be able to participate
in a fantastic competition while doing so! Of
course with any successful event or swim meet, planning is done. We are beginning
our search for help in our next meet, May Performance on May 9-10, 2009 at U of
T. If you are interested in getting more involved in roles such as the Officials
Co-ordinator, general Meet Management or the Officials Food team, please contact
either Yvonne Moy at nyacofficials@yahoo.ca or Vivian Hu at whu0721@rogers.com
. All the best
to you and your swimmer(s) and I will see you at the pool!
