Dear
NYAC Parents This
month's letter from my desk is written as I reflect on swimming from a parent
to another parent. I have read extensively over the Short Course season on the
age group development of a swimmer, and have learned tremendously about our children's
sport from our coaches, research, and talking to you, NYAC's membership. "Children
have their own reasons for participating in sports." Our coaches at NYAC
work hard to harmonize with this and as parents we must also do the same. Canadian
Sport for Life (CS4L) has recently published a guide for parents, which I have
attached to this message for your reference. I have read through this document
and continue to re-read it so that I can help my swimmers and our club to the
best of my ability. Dowload
the CS4L Guide for Parents here... This
month, in harmony with the CS4L document and Swimming Canada, Swim Ontario has
deemed March a "Refocus and Revitalization Period". In swim parent language
this means that there is not a single sanctioned swim meet for our swimmers outside
of Spring Nationals. During this time of reflection, let's remember why our kids
swim; to have fun, to make and develop friendships, do something they are good
at, to feel good about themselves, to feel accepted, and to improve and learn
new skills. It is easy to forget these things! It
is documented that it often takes between 10 - 15 years of the best possible preparation
to reach individual peak performance levels. In light of this, we promise to do
our best to provide your swimmer with the best possible preparation this Long
Course Season. Please enjoy the free time you will have in the month of March
with family, friends, and in other sports and social activities. Congratulations
to all of our swimmers in completion of a fabulous Short Course season! Congratulations
to all of our coaches and Olga Macel for a fantastic job! Thank-you
parents for getting your swimmer to the pool and your time volunteered at all
of our club events! Sincerely,
Natalie
