Our
swim program is well under way with all swimmers racing in at least one meet so
far! Congratulations to the NYAC swimmers who participated in Brantford this past
weekend earning the Small Teams High Point Award. Also, a special congratulations
to all of our new competitive swimmers who dove off the blocks for their very
first time in their first race! BRAVO! I
would like to thank all of the parents, coaches, and officials who helped with
our Time Trial on October 25th. It was a great opportunity for some of our swimmers
to tackle some distance events for the first time. Also, a big thank-you to Marjie
Chud, who taught our timer's clinic at Douglas Snow. If you were unable to attend
the clinic, Swim Ontario has just launched an on-line version of the clinic. You
will need an enrolment key from our Officials Director, Yvonne Moy. She can be
reached at nyacofficials@yahoo.ca
. This Friday
NYAC will be celebrating as a club our 50th year with our Annual Awards Banquet.
The event will run from 6pm to 10pm at the Toronto Botannical Garden at 777 Lawrence
Avenue East. It will be a fantastic night with Julia Wilkinson, Beijing Olympian,
as a guest speaker, the awards for last year's season, the raffle, the yearbook
and the viewing of the 2007-2008 DVD! I look forward to seeing you there! Most
of you by now have signed up for your volunteer sessions for Youth Cup and Mega
City online. If you are experiencing problems, please contact Yvonne Moy at nyacofficials@yahoo.ca
. A special thank-you to the Dobrescu family for working on our online sign-up
and to William Williams with his expertise with our website. Peter Cooling, Vivian
Hu, Steve Lim, and Olga Macel are also part of our meet management team for Youth
Cup and Mega City. Robyne Piccone, Linda Liberta and Daniela D. are working together
on the Officials' Food and Cafeteria, Willa Chu is gathering items for a fantastic
Silent Auction, and Hilary Turnock is preparing our t-shirts for sale. Thank-you
very much for all of your work so far and throughout the meets. Please
mark your calendars to pick up your cookie dough orders on November 22nd. If you
are unable to pick up your orders, please let our Fundraising Director, Kate McKellar
at nyac.fundraising@rogers.com
know in advance of the alternate arrangements you have made. Coach
Murray has also made arrangements for a Nutrition Seminar to take place on November
22nd at Douglas Snow for both swimmers and parents. More details will follow via
email and your pool rep. Our
holiday Red, Black and White fun meet will be on Saturday December 20th at Douglas
Snow. The whole club is invited to attend for a skills workshop, fun relays and
a team breakfast! The
Christmas Training Camp schedules will be organized in the near future. As the
schedules differ for each group, your coaches and pool reps will be advising you
of the details. Finally,
the NYAC Board of Directors would like to extend a warm welcome to its new members
Leon Goren and Christianne Paris. See
you on Friday! Natalie
