Ajax Swimming Head Coach Matt Bell is please to welcome Coach John Calnan to our Staff. John is one of top young coaches in Canada, and will assume the role of Assistant Head Coach in the wake of Jen Porenta's amicable departure. John, along with Matt and Head Age Group Coach Mischa Sommerville, are excited to take the team into the new quadrennial.

John Calnan; has spent a lifetime immersed in the sport of competitive swimming. He has spent the last 6 seasons as Assistant Head Coach with the North York Aquatic Club and this past season was Assistant Head Coach of both the University of Lethbridge Varsity Squad and LASC swim club.  As a coach his swimmers have won numerous provincial and national medals, broken club and provincial records and have gone on to represent Ontario and Canada on a number of tour teams. In 2009 and 2010 he was awarded theSwim Ontario High Performance Coaching Award for his work with 13 and 14 year old boys.; He is a two time member of the Swim Ontario Youth Tour Team coaching staff and was also selected as a coach for the 2011 North American Challenge Cup that competed in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

As a National level swimmer with the North York Aquatic Club his commitment to training and fitness has produced exceptional results. He is an Olympic trials finalist in the 1500 meter freestyle at the 2004 Canadian Olympic trials. As a member of the Duquesne Dukes he was a school record holder and Atlantic 10 finalist in the 200 fly.  He has combined these competitive performances with an Honours degree in kinesiology in Pure and Applied Science in Kinesiology from York University, holding special qualifications in fitness assessment. John's will assume his duties on September 5th.
