OTTAWA - Swimming Canada announced today the coaching and support staff for the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships taking place August 15-21st in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Canada’s top swimmers will be competing against the best in the world in the biggest competition of the 2010 season. Swimmers include multiple Paralympic champion and World Record holders Benoit Huot of Montréal, Chelsey Gotell of Hamilton and Stephanie Dixon of Victoria.
Canada’s 32-member IPC World swim team will be lead by National Para-swimming Coach Craig McCord (Richmond, BC) as well as coaches Craig Mortimer (Newmarket, ON), Claude Picard (Montréal, QC), Pierre Lamy (Montréal, QC), Sebastian Messier (Montréal, QC), Michel Bérubé (Gatineau, QC), Reg Shaw (Surrey, BC), Kevin Ross (Sackville, NS), France Latendresse (St. Jean sur Richelieu, QC)
“This is the largest Para-swimming team ever to be taken offshore for a major championship and games,” states National Coach Craig McCord. “The coaching staff is the most experienced we have ever taken to a major competition with 6 coaches (McCord, Picard, Lamy, Messier, Shaw, Ross) having international Para-swimming experience; 1 having an Olympic Games experience (Bérubé) and 2 (Mortimer and Latendresse) having substantial experience and success at the National level.”
According to McCord this coaching staff will provide the 2010 World Championship team swimmers with the coaching experience and quality of coaching needed to stand on the podium in Eindhoven.
“World Championships is the next biggest meet to the Paralympic Games, we have the best swimmers and the best coaches, the challenge is large and I know the staff will have the swimmers ready to race against the best in the world,” adds McCord.
