Equipment

One of the Crusader's strong points is that we always try to look like a team. All team members are provided with a Club swim cap and  t-shirt.  At the start of the year, the coach of the older age groups will advise the swimmers of any other equipment requirements.  DCSC swim suits are available for sale on most Saturday mornings at the Sportsplex at the Club-run Equipment Box.

This year’s Equipment Box will be run by Joan Versnel. The Box is located on the Cafι level of the Sportsplex, near the Harbour Room. Normal hours are Saturday mornings from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.  If you need something in an emergency, however, you can contact one of the above volunteers and they will do their best to accommodate you.

The Club policy is that only Crusader equipment can be worn on the pool deck.  We also want to increase our visibility to the general public during practice.  Therefore, only yellow caps, with or without the DCSC crest, should be worn.

It is recommended that swimmers buy a lock for use at the Sportsplex and at meets. Please label all your swim clothes and equipment. We have over 100 swimmers with almost identical items.

Visit the Equipment Box on Time Trial mornings to see what else is available, including polyester suits and swim bags. Please refer to the Price List (price list current being updated)  for a list of items that we usually have in stock.  From time to time, special orders are placed.  We will let you know which items we will be ordering and when. Order forms can be completed and left at the DCSC Office. Many items can be specially ordered if there is enough interest and usually includes DCSC hoodies, DCSC jackets, Aquablades, Fastskin II's, fins and pull buoys.

Equipment managers do not normally bring equipment to swim meets, so please plan ahead when anticipating your swimmer's needs. However, from time to time, swim caps may be available at meets. Also, credit will not be available to swimmers. Please have your payment (cheque preferred) at the time of purchase. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this regard.

EQUIPMENT UPDATE

Thank you to all for being patient as we get things set up with respect to equipment for the new swim season. As many of you are now aware, Crusaders will be changing team colours from Royal Blue and Gold to Navy and Gold. This decision will make the range of options available for team apparel and equipment much wider.  We understand that some families bought apparel and equipment last year with the intent of using it at competitions this year. As we transition to navy & gold we have some stock of royal blue swim suits that may be used this year for training, and local future league, development and time trial meets. Old stock will be discounted to move it out of use quickly and to bring on the new team image. Future league athletes only may wear the old stock throughout the 2008-2009 season.

Navy & Gold is expected at Invitational and Championship meets, and fully at all meets by February 1st 2009.

TEAM APPAREL

What to wear at group dry-land?  Generally on Monday night dry-land it will be indoors so shirt, shorts, and running shoes are fine.  If coaches have planned an outdoor activity you will be advised in advance (verbal and Splash for now, and eventually e-mail or a web page notice).  Wear your Crusaders shirts as often as possible – older t-shirts, track jackets, or hoodies are fine as long as they promote our team.  We want the community and other users at the pool to take note of us, be curious about our program, and to pick Crusaders as the sports team for their family.  At meets we want to be in our navy&gold colors.  When you watch a sports event on TV do you know which team the players are on?  For future league and new swimmers who have just one shirt we recommend that you bring some spare long and short sleeve shirts to meets; put a dry one on after each race, then put your team shirt on top to make sure everyone knows which team you swim for.

 To Summarize:

PRACTICE SESSIONS

Crusaders swimmers - wear the DCSC caps at all practices.

Old stock – (1) swimmers may wear the royal blue crested Crusaders lycra suits if they choose;  (2) swimmers may wear polyester Endurance suits. (3) Swimmers may wear the new navy and gold Quantum Splice suits for which most swimmers have been sized. (4) prints – move toward wearing them for morning practices that take place at our home pool if you prefer a print and move toward navy suits for afternoons and Centennial over the course of the season

DRYLAND TRAINING

Crusaders swimmers - may wear any Crusaders shirt.

On cold days - a long sleeved T-shirt under the Crusaders shirt is recommended for warmth.

Legs - Shorts or track pants in navy or black preferred, and if possible with no branding. New or old track suits for dryland training this year.

MEETS

All meets - wear Crusaders caps during warm-up and races. Wear the new navy&gold Crusaders t-shirts on deck and new Crusaders track suit if staying warm is an issue. As an alternative you can wear a long-sleeve shirt under your Crusaders shirt and navy/black track pants with no branding.

Future League Meets - wear royal blue crested lycra suits or the navy and gold Quantum Splice suits.

Age Group  Development meets - wear the new navy and gold Quantum Splice suit, navy Aquablades or navy Fastskins. Polyesters Endurance suits may be worn for warm-ups only. For this year only, swimmers may wear the royal blue crested Aquablades.

 EQUIPMENT FOR PRACTICE
