Fundraising

Any non-profit organization must rely on its members to provide or generate revenue to cover its operating expenses. DCSC, like most swim clubs, has a membership fee structure that includes a 'fundraising' portion which simply facilitates payment of your commitment to the club. To minimize the real out of pocket cost, the Club organizes a number of activities to enable members to raise funds toward the fundraising commitment portion of the fees. Many members raise a significant portion of their commitment through fundraising. The Club requires a strong fundraising effort by its members. Any member can simply allow their fundraising cheques to be cashed on the due dates as per the fee schedule. However, operating a sports club requires the support of all its members, and the Crusaders' program cannot be maintained without a strong  fundraising effort. Try to do your part.

Should you fundraise?

Absolutely, if for no other reason than the fact that it is TAX-FREE MONEY. When you earn a $50.00 credit through fundraising, you receive the full benefit of that money. However, if you do not fundraise, the dollars you must pay to meet the full membership cost must be earned through employment, which as we all know, is taxed before you get it! If you fundraise in excess of your commitment, the Club will pay for meet related expenses such as meet entry fees and travel costs in proportion to the excess fundraising.

When everyone works together, fundraising can be a worthwhile and satisfying activity, both financially and socially. In the end, everyone (swimmers, parents, and the Club) benefits form an active and strong Club. The Club tries very hard to organize fundraisers that offer something of value to the public in exchange for their support.

CHRISTMAS 2008 CITRIS SALE

Order Deadline: November 14th, 2008
Sale Date: December 5th, 2008 6-7pm

This year our first citrus fundraiser is in December. The Xmas sale has traditionally been the biggest sale of the year with excellent fruit and the one on which you should really focus your efforts.

The citrus for the Dec/08 sale is the Florida seedless navel orange and Florida pink grapefruit. The citrus comes in various sizes with 64 being the medium size for oranges and 36 being the medium size for grapefruit. The size always refers to the number of oranges or grapefruit in one box of citrus and it will be marked on the outside of each box. By weight the oranges are approximately 50 lbs and the grapefruit 40 lbs.

We are also offering NS Export Quality Macintosh, Cortland, and Red Delicious apples from the Annapolis Valley. The sizes and apples per box are as follows:

• size 88: 35 apples
• size 100: 40 apples
• size 113: 45 apples
• size 125: 50 apples

Sorting the apples for spoilage is not necessary.

Although the citrus is picked, packed and shipped to us immediately there usually is some spoilage. Therefore, you are responsible for sorting your own citrus for spoilage before your customers receive it. Since there is no room on the truck to sort fruit you will either have to sort it in the parking lot or at home. If you sort it at home you will have to return the spoilage to me and pick up replacement fruit. It is very important to ensure that your customers are satisfied with the product they receive in order to sustain their continued support of your club.

The prices for the Dec/08 sale are:

FRUIT PRICE FUNDRAISING
CREDIT
Oranges $36.00 per box OR $18.00 per 1/2 box $10.00 per box
Grapefruit $36.00 per box OR $18.00 per 1/2 box $10.00 per box
Apples (Macs, Cort, Red Del) $14.00 per box $3.00 per box

To simplify things, I am asking that only members pick up fruit on sale day.
I am not using paper order forms any more. Therefore, all orders are to be sent by e-mail to crusadercitrus@eastlink.ca . If you have to place a phone order, please call me at home after 6:00pm. If you have to leave a message, please state the name of your swimmer.
I am insisting that you submit only checks (no cash). Checks make the accounting much easier. Please write the name of your oldest swimmer on the back of each check. I do not have a facility for the sale so we will be holding it directly out of the truck, as in previous years, as follows:

• 6-7pm in the Sportsplex parking lot next to the woods

I will let you know before the sale date if anything should change with respect to pickup location and time.
Please note:
• deadline for orders Nov 14/08
• date of pickup Dec 5/08

It makes management of the sale so much easier when these dates are observed.
We are offering high quality, healthy products at reasonable prices. The Crusaders organization is also dedicated to helping young people succeed in life. These are good reasons why people in our communities should be willing to support us.

GOOD LUCK SELLING CITRUS !!

  Sobey's Gift Certificates

DCSC will be running the Sobeys gift certificate program as a fundraiser again this year!

DCSC families buy gift certificates for their grocery shopping needs,
and receive a 4-5% discount applied to the family’s DCSC fundraising account. It’s a very easy way to fundraise: we all need groceries. Some club member families sell certificates to friends and family, which helps boost their fundraising credits. Sobey's also sells gas at a few locations!

Post-dated cheques are required from families interested in participating.  Cheques are dated for the beginning of the month (Oct. 1, Nov. 1, Dec. 1, etc). Cheques can be dropped off at the DCSC office (attn: Diana Sonnichsen). Order dates are listed below.

Arrangements can be made to pick up your certificates at the pool, at a meet or they can be picked up at my home. I live very close to the pool. If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please contact me.

Diana Sonnichsen (sonnichsen@accesswave.ca)
Sobeys Fundraising coordinator

Note: Sobeys Gift certificates can also be used at Sobeys Fast Fuel Stations, Lawton’s, Needs, Price Chopper and Foodland Stores. Customers must spend a minimum 10% of face value of the gift certificate to redeem. There is usually not a problem doing this at Sobeys stores, but occasionally Lawton’s will not honour this and requires the full amount to be spent.

Order dates for this 2008- 2009 season:  I need to know how many certificates to order a week before I give you the certificates. Please have post-dated cheques to me (DCSC office) by Sept. 20, Oct. 20, Nov. 20, etc.

For the past three years we’ve extended the program through the summer. Fundraising credit for July, August, and September is forwarded to the next swimming season. If you miss a deadline or you need more certificates before the next order don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. I prefer correspondence by email.
