Fundraising

Any non-profit organization must rely on its members to provide or generate revenue to cover its operating expenses. DCSC, like most swim clubs, has a membership fee structure that includes a 'fundraising' portion which simply facilitates payment of your commitment to the club. To minimize the real out of pocket cost, the Club organizes a number of activities to enable members to raise funds toward the fundraising commitment portion of the fees. Many members raise a significant portion of their commitment through fundraising. The Club requires a strong fundraising effort by its members. Any member can simply allow their fundraising cheques to be cashed on the due dates as per the fee schedule. However, operating a sports club requires the support of all its members, and the Crusaders' program cannot be maintained without a strong  fundraising effort. Try to do your part.

Should you fundraise?

Absolutely, if for no other reason than the fact that it is TAX-FREE MONEY. When you earn a $50.00 credit through fundraising, you receive the full benefit of that money. However, if you do not fundraise, the dollars you must pay to meet the full membership cost must be earned through employment, which as we all know, is taxed before you get it! If you fundraise in excess of your commitment, the Club will pay for meet related expenses such as meet entry fees and travel costs in proportion to the excess fundraising.

When everyone works together, fundraising can be a worthwhile and satisfying activity, both financially and socially. In the end, everyone (swimmers, parents, and the Club) benefits form an active and strong Club. The Club tries very hard to organize fundraisers that offer something of value to the public in exchange for their support.

  Sobey's Gift Certificates

DCSC will be running the Sobeys gift certificate program as a fundraiser again this year!

DCSC families buy gift certificates for their grocery shopping needs,
and receive a 4-5% discount applied to the family’s DCSC fundraising account. It’s a very easy way to fundraise: we all need groceries. Some club member families sell certificates to friends and family, which helps boost their fundraising credits. Sobey's also sells gas at a few locations!

Post-dated cheques are required from families interested in participating.  Cheques are dated for the beginning of the month (Oct. 1, Nov. 1, Dec. 1, etc). Cheques can be dropped off at the DCSC office (attn: Diana Sonnichsen). Order dates are listed below.

Arrangements can be made to pick up your certificates at the pool, at a meet or they can be picked up at my home. I live very close to the pool. If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please contact me.

Sobeys Fundraising coordinator

Note: Sobeys Gift certificates can also be used at Sobeys Fast Fuel Stations, Lawton’s, Needs, Price Chopper and Foodland Stores. Customers must spend a minimum 10% of face value of the gift certificate to redeem. There is usually not a problem doing this at Sobeys stores, but occasionally Lawton’s will not honour this and requires the full amount to be spent.

At some point in the future paper gift certificates will no longer be available. Plastic gift cards will be used in place of paper. Plastic gift cards will retain the unused portion of value for use at another time; no cash back if the full value of the card is not used.

Order dates for this 2009- 2010 season:  I need to know how many certificates to order a week before I give you the certificates. Please have post-dated cheques to me (DCSC office) by Sept. 20, Oct. 20, Nov. 20, etc.

For the past four years we’ve extended the program through the summer. Fundraising credit for July, August, and September is forwarded to the next swimming season. If you miss a deadline or you need more certificates before the next order don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. I prefer correspondence by email.
