The GSH Philosophy

The Goulbourn Sea Hawks offers a program of excellence that is appealing to swimmers of all ages. Regardless of the swimmer's capability, the coaches, board members and parents work towards helping athletes to develop to whatever level to which they aspire.

The Club philosophy is one that believes that these are the formative years as far as attitudes, work ethic, skill development and many other attainable attributes which go towards the making of swimmers and good citizens.

With this in mind we aim at the following objectives:

1. To provide a progressive, excellence program where swimmers can develop to the best of their abilities and desires.
2. To foster the acquisition and development of a wide variety of skills.
3. To promote a positive attitude toward the club and competitive swimming.
4. To generate a sense of fair play and sportsmanship.
5. To provide a fun learning and training environment that builds each swimmers self-esteem.

To present the above in an orderly, logical and effective fashion, the club is divided into distinct groups. The placement of individuals within any particular group is determined by factors including age, ability, desire and commitment, speed, skill level, physical, mental and social maturity, parental support and the coaches general evaluation.

Training times are established based on these factors and on available pool time. As with academics, or in learning any new skill, practice presented and carried out correctly, makes perfect. With this in mind, the more the athlete can participate on a regular basis, the more likely they are to progress and develop the skills necessary to achieve their personal goals. Parents will be consulted by their coach when a swimmer is ready to progress to the next level.

VISION

The GSH's vision for the sport of competitive swimming is for all swimmers to have the opportunity to develop to their full potential, without excessive pressure, in a supportive, injury-free and non-aggressive environment.
