"A non-doer is very often a critic-that is, someone who sits back and watches doers, and then waxes philosophically about how the doers are doing. It's easy to be a critic, but being a doer requires effort, risk, and change."
Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

proud grandfather would also like to thank everyone for their kind words.

Coach Liliana
Our entry-level
kids did very well last weekend at the KSSC Spring
Distance/Novice Meet. The GAC team came in the 4th place out of 9 participating
clubs with 423 points.
Laurie Laird was ranked 7th with 46 points in the overall
meet. Paige
Widdis followed her close behind in 11th place with 42 points.
Michele Delfino, Sofia Lightbody and Cameron Penner came in
25th
with 36 points.
Megan Bulmer and Corinne Harris were also very close
with 35 and 34 points respectively.
All of the rest of our swimmers: Abbey-Grace Clark, Sara
Dawe, Sarah Johnson,
Amber Macey and Rebecca Pilon, came in 1st to 7th place in all the
events they swam, getting ribbons and bringing points to our team.
Very well done kids. Congratulations to all of you!
Liliana
Tip of the Week: Drink Water
This week’s
Speedo Tip of the Week is an excerpt from the January-February 2006 issue of
Splash, in which special correspondent and Olympic gold medalist Nicole
Haislett offers some nutritional guidelines for swimming fast. Here, Haislett
writes about the importance of drinking water.
Haislett’s
Tip:
Water, water, water!
Everyone should drink lots of it, especially athletes. I think swimmers forget
they sweat in the water. According to medical research, 75% of all people are
chronically dehydrated, and even mild dehydration will slow a person’s
metabolism as much as 3%. Lack of water is the biggest cause of daytime
fatigue. I always carried a water bottle with me. It becomes habit. Remember,
coffee and sodas don’t count. If you’re trying to cut back on calories, drink a
large glass of water before and during your meals.
Nicole
Haislett was a 1992 Olympic gold medalist and former American record-holder in
the 200m free. She is now a professional chef.
Update from
the Board of Directors
Hi Everyone,
Wow, I just read Liliana's report and it sounds like GAC was blazing trails in Kingston last weekend. Congratulations guys, that was fantastic! Part of the fun of going to a meet is to pay attention to the total points a team gets (keep in mind some teams are larger than others so their points will be respective of size to a certain extent). GAC clearly did a great job in Kingston, thanks Liliana!
Congratulations Rob, on your new family member...he is
beautiful. We are happy to hear that everyone is healthy!
The team is gearing up for the Eastern Ontario Regional
Championships this weekend at the Sportsplex. If you aren't swimming in
this event it would be great if you came out and gave your support. We
would love to see you (I'll be the one timing). Good Luck everyone and
let's hear the cheer!...I can't heeeear you!

TEAM EQUIPMENT
In
stock team equipment can be purchased by contacting Johanne
Fauvelle by phone, e-mail, or at the pool on Monday, Tuesday, and
Thursday evenings from 5:00-5:30pm. We currently have polyester suits and
custom team bags in stock as well as two second had team jackets size 10-12 and
14-16. Please contact Johanne at 831-9605 or e-mail at rejeanp@sympatico.ca
Parents
may have noticed that the GAC caps and Team Suits are fading quickly,
this is due to high chlorine levels as well as daily use. The caps are
latex and will eventually break down, therefore it is suggested that swimmers
keep their Team Caps and Suits solely for swim meet use and purchase training
suits and caps for daily use. It is also a good idea to have an extra GAC
cap on hand at meets in case of rips and tears.
