Always willing to try something new, I entered the Masters Provincial Lifesaving Championships 2006, held in Toronto July 23.

In June and July I learnt the techniques needed to compete at Guelph Lake. The events were a surf swim, beach run, surf ski, surf paddle, beach flags and the Ironguard (surf swim, beach run, and surf paddle).

Will I do it again next year? Yes!!! I had a great time. Everyone - athletes, officials, spectators - were so supportive and encouraging. Next year I'll be more ready for a surf - thankful it was only a few waves this year!
