LAC Annual Awards Banquet

Each year in October, our club celebrates the accomplishments made by our swimmers in the prior season and welcomes our newest members. Swimmers are recognized for various achievements including:

Megan Holliday Spirit Award

The Megan Holliday Spirit Award is given to the swimmer (male of female) who best demonstrates the qualities than Megan embodied. Performance, leadership and spirit are the 3 criteria considered. The scholarship is for $1000 and is distributed through the London Community Foundation.

MEGAN HOLLIDAY
(1972-1993)

  • joined LAC in 1980
  • made her first National team in 1986
  • went to WOSSAA and OFSSAA several times for cross country running representing Oakridge High School
  • at 15 years old won 2 bronze medals in the 400m and 800m freestyle at the 1987 Pan-Am Games in Indianapolis
  • was a Canadian National Team member for 5 years from 1986-90
  • attended the University of Southern California on a swimming scholarship starting in the fall of 1990
  • was diagnosed with a heart condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW) and in 1990 underwent a 14-hour electrical stimulation procedure which fixed it, with Megan back in the water 3 days later
  • in 1993, 2 days before her fall, Megan was voted the USC Trojan Spirit Award winner, and the award was re-named the Megan Holliday Trojan Team Spirit Award after her tragic passing.
