Two years with NYAC as a pool
rep, what an experience! When
my kids first joined the club, I
volunteered for the Intro 1 pool
rep's job. I was not aware of
how things worked within the
club, yet I was supposed to an-
swer many questions from par-
ents. As a pool rep you're basi-
cally the source of communica-
tion for parents and the link
between them and the club.
So, I had to educate myself
promptly, for that I thank Vivian
Hu, our Communications Direc-
tor who quickly brought me up
to speed and made me aware of
all NYAC procedures and up-
dates.
In a couple of months I had
quite a good understanding of
many things that sounded com-
plicated to me at the beginning.
Being the pool rep for the Intro
group might be the most chal-
lenging one, as you have to deal
with parents who are new to the
club and to competitive swim-
ming and you need to provide
them with a lot of information to
keep them on track. Not to men-
tion the big challenge of coordi-
nating the sign up for volunteer
jobs during NYAC hosted meets.
Things couldn't be easier without
the flexibility and understanding
of our Officials Director Yvonne
Moy.
This year I am the pool rep for
Youth group where my son Ga-
mal is presently swimming. Of
course it's much easier having
the experience now and also deal-
ing with parents who are already
committed and are aware of the
system. I guess the most exciting
part was when asked to co-
ordinate the breakfast for the en-
tire club. I always worry when I
prepare dinner for guests at
home. Imagine feeding all swim-
mers, parents and coaches....!!!! I
think we have to commend
Beatrix for her outstanding job
for the past years being the food-
coordinator during NYAC hosted
meets.
Thanks to all the parents of
the Youth group this year for
being so co-operative, under-
standing and committed. Also,
a special thanks to our de-
voted coach Diego, who al-
ways keeps me in the picture
and makes my job easy. Even
during his absence, he was
always in touch with us.
Who said a volunteer job is a
job with no pay??? I do get
paid when I see my kids
happy that I am involved in
what they are doing. In turn,
they are proud of me for being
the pool rep for their group. I
don't want to forget to thank
Olga for calculating the pool
rep's points every year.
New to NYAC .....Being a POOL REP.......Easy Challenge...???
