Our group has been training hard
since September to improve our
strokes, develop some endurance
and learn the ins and outs of swim
meets and I am amazed at the pro-
gress we've made so far! Most of
our group moved up to Intro this
year from Waves and have shown
tremendous improvement! I've been
thoroughly impressed by the results
during the short course season and
am looking forward to what the long
course season will bring. I was very
happy that our entire group made it
out for the Central Region Team
Champs in February. Congratula-
tions to all the kids on a great per-
formance at the meet!
Congratulations to Jonathan Brodie
and Chelsey Quarin who swam in
their first swim meet EVER at Team
Champs! Jonathan swam his first
ever 100 Breast in 1:56.80 and a 50
Free in 43.01. Chelsey also swam
her first 100 Breast ever in 2:00.92.
Great job!
Other highlights from the meet in-
cluded: Guillaume Cadour swim-
ming his first 100 IM in 2:08.40,
Emily Kraemer who took off over 8
seconds in her 100 Breast to go
2:11.63, and Emily also took off 6
seconds in her 50 Back and went
55.98! Claire Lockridge had a great
50 Free with a time of 41.69, she'll
be under :40 in no time! Palmer
Lockridge took off 4 seconds in his
50 Fly and went 48.76, and as al-
ways did a great 100 Back in 1:37.68.
Alison Reid swam her first swim meet of
the year at Team Champs and did an
amazing job! Her 50 Back was great
with a time of 50.63. Erin Yabsley also
did extremely well! Erin took off 8 sec-
onds in her 50 Free and went 44.53, her
50 Fly (52.66) looked great and was fast
too!
Many of the kids were on relays and it
was amazing to see how happy they were
to get their trophies at the end of the
meet! Let's keep the energy levels high
as swim meets will bring new challenges
for us. Whether it's making provincial
times, racing a new group of kids, or
working on taking off time in every race,
we have a lot to look forward to! Let's
keep working hard in practice and it will
all pay off!

Intro 1 was full of surprises at
short course champs last month.
Every swimmer surpassed my expec-
tations as well as their own. The
weekend started off with Jake Poulton
swimming 45.62s for 50m Back-
stroke, 3:38.90 for 100m IM and
38.4s for 50m freestyle. Awesome
job!!! The swimmers continued to
blow everyone away. Thomas Lychy
took over 40s off his 100IM swim-
ming 1:59.78. He then dropped 14
seconds off his 50m breaststroke and
won his heat by swimming 1:02.33.
Hard work has paid off!!!! Emma
Spitz, who swam a 1:10 for 50m
back and 1:19.20 in 50m Breast,
competed for the first time proving
she has the drive and the ambition
for competition!!! Courtney Rider,
who has knack for surprise, came
out and swam a stellar 100m IM;
swimming it in
1:54.98. She also swam 1:46.68 in
her 100m freestyle. Last but not
least, Ricki Adams, who always
comes out and does her best, achieved a
best time in 50m back with a 45.48s and
1:47.27 in 100m Free. Every swimmer
should be proud of their accomplish-
ments individually and as a team. Win-
ning short course champs has shown us
all that as long as we continue to work
hard and put forth our best effort, it will
pay off in the end. We would like to see
a bigger turn out for the Long Course
Champs coming up. Congratulations
everyone! A job well done!!!
