With
our Youth Cup \ Megacity (YC\MC) meets quickly approaching it is very important
that all club parents become certified to officiate. Each
family is responsible for 6 volunteer sessions at this meet, and an additional
8 sessions at our later meets. The
Ontario Swimming Officials Association (OSOA) has now made it easy to obtain entry
level officiating certifications on line. OSOA is now offering these
on line clinics: -
Level 1 Timers\Safety Marshal
- Level
2 Strokes and Turns\Head Lane Timer
- Level
2 Chief Time Keeper
We
have decided to use these on line clinics as a replacement for our NYAC in house
officials clinic that was scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2009. Instead we
will use this date to offer a Q&A session for new officials that have taken
the on line clinics. This Q&A session will allow new officials to ask questions
about the timers role, learn to run a stop watch and a plunger, and learn more
about officiating at a swim meet. Keep in mind that these courses are
not just for parents. Grandparents, relatives, friends and siblings over 14 years
of age can take these clinics. The session hours at the meets count toward high
school community volunteer hours. Please note: If you will be taking
the Level 1 Timers\Safety Marshal Clinic we suggest that you have it completed
before the October 24 Q&A session. For more information about these
clinics, and the password to access the online site, please contact NYACs
