Optimism Becomes Reality
for the National Development Group
at Junior Provincials and
Central Region Champs

Short Course Season Wrap-Up

March 2009

The constant challenge for every age group swim coach is to create a supportive and delicate balance between optimism and realism.

Understanding that each swimmer is in a long and challenging process that is certain to have many highs and lows, it is important to constantly push forward and at the same time to nurture and support each swimmer.

The real goal for a coach is to build in each swimmer a ship that will sail sturdily through the most troubled waters and will emerge from the darkest clouds ready to continue the voyage. The National Development group strengthened their ships and surpassed their defined goals to create a genuine feeling of optimism for their future goals. The picture of an exhausted swimmer, arm raised in victory, with a knowing smile across their face repeated itself many times at the Provincials and the Central Region Champs.

Congratulations swimmers, your coach, parents and the NYAC administration understand the amount of work and dedication that these results required. We applaud loudly and deeply appreciate your performances.
