As the saying goes "Rome was not built in a day" and this statement rings very true for both the members of the National Development and Provincial 1 groups. We have slowly started to gain some momentum over the past month with a steady increase in the number of practices per week, along with the amount of mileage we are swimming at each workout. With the opening of Douglas Snow in October, we were able to indulge in some very exciting test sets in a long-course environment, with both groups swimming together, which added some great excitement and enthusiasm to our Wednesday morning workouts. We have also had the privilege of training with Coach Murray's National group on Saturday afternoon where many times we are forced to take our training to new heights and push ourselves to levels where we have never been. We also took part in a training camp over Thanksgiving weekend with the National group, which included a very fun "turkey shoot" practice on the Sunday afternoon (on a side note Coach John was very pleased that no one lost an eye while throwing darts at the Turkeys during this workout - ha ha).

After three weeks of technique, skills and review during our entry phase we are currently in our build phase where we are trying to test ourselves both mentally and physically on a day-to-day basis. Our first meet of the season was the Hall of Fame meet at Etobicoke which saw some very positive results. Here is some of the standout performances from that meet…

Next up is either the Harvest/Autumn meet for our 13 and overs or the Swim International meet at Brantford for our 12 and unders.
An exciting addition to the groups this year is the introduction of our "Swimmer of the Month" feature. Not only will you read about some highlights from each swimmer but also get to know them outside of the pool with a feature we like to call the "Off Deck" questionnaire - hope you all enjoy it!!!

Before I go I would like to thank William Williams for all his help with our webpage along with our pool reps Kathleen and Teresa and also Steve and Melissa with their help during the week - ooops !- and of course Olga in the office who, as many of you know, helps to keep Coach John's hair colour still somewhat dark and not yet all that grey.

Talk to you soon,

John-aka "Paul"
