Impressive First Place Finish for NYAC Swimmers at the Summer Team Champs

Meet Report
June 2007

NYAC - CENTRAL REGION SUMMER TEAM CHAMPS

The final scene, late Sunday afternoon at the Etobicoke Olympium, was a mixture of joy and exuberance as our exhausted NYAC swimmers embraced their trophies in a spontaneous celebration of their championship performance. NYAC concluded a weekend of repeated excellent performances to capture the Central Region Summer Team Championship.

The most precious commodity of any successful swim club is its young swimmers, and once again these fledgling athletes gave us a glimpse into a very magical future. If teamwork can be described as the fuel that drives the motor of success, it is abundantly clear that NYAC had its tank full on Sunday evening. All of the ingredients of successful teamwork were present and readily observed last weekend as swimmers, parents and coaches marched through the events full of enthusiasm, determination and resilience.

These young swimmers earned a well deserved deposit of celebration, excellence and most importantly resilience in their personal bank accounts that will serve them well in their future competitive endeavours.

A swimming career is composed of a large collection of many small moments of deep-felt delight and sometimes profound disappointment. The trophies raised in celebration and the screams of joy were highly satisfying but most importantly, the inner resolve, the deep feeling of personal success and the commitment to return to this magical moment are the ingredients that make up a significant building block. Ask successful swimmers about the highlights of their careers and invariably you will hear a story about an early moment when they understood that they could achieve great things. On the deck, at the Olympium late Sunday afternoon in the midst of this celebration, as I looked into the eyes of our young swimmers, I believe I saw that moment.
