October 2006
Welcome to
all returning and new NYAC members and parents!
It was great
to have seen so many familiar and new faces at our Annual BBQ and
swim practices. Now that the swimmers are in the water, pool reps
will meet and contact everyone. Your pool rep is your resource;
he/she is your information link to NYAC and the source of communication
to/from the club. He/she may coordinate events for your group and
help coaches liaise with parents. The following is a list of this
year's pool reps:

Should you have
any questions about your child's program, your first and most important
contact is his or her coach. Any further concerns may be addressed
to Diane Peirce, Programming Director for NYAC.
Please be aware
of several upcoming events. In order for NYAC to run successful
meets, we require volunteers to officiate (i.e. timers, stroke and
turn judges, clerks, etc.). There will be an official's timer and
strokes and turns clinic conducted by Marjie Chud and John Chittney
on Saturday October 21 from 7 to 9 am at Douglas Snow. At least
one adult in each family must have levels 1 and 2 qualification.
Friday November
17, 2006 will be our fun-filled annual banquet. This year's banquet
will be held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Every swimmer
will receive one ticket as part of their membership fees. We encourage
all family members to attend (swimmers under 12 must be accompanied
by an adult). Tickets may be purchased from your pool reps. The
banquet will be a great opportunity to meet new members and renew
old friendships.
Finally, there
will be an excellent opportunity for you to quickly earn back some
of your fundraising commitment while simultaneously helps our club.
You simply need to purchase Loblaws gifts cards, which may be used
as cash at any Loblaws, No Frills, Valu-Mart, etc. They may be ordered
by contacting Marjie Chud (cmarjie@rogers.com). Three percent of
each dollar spent goes directly to your swimmer's account up to
$250, the remaining being split with NYAC. This year NYAC also has
a new initiative called the Shop and Support program, very similar
to the Loblaws card idea. For further details, please contact our
fundraising director Cheryl Kicksee (jkicksee@sympatico.ca).
Understanding
that the above information may be a bit overwhelming, I encourage
you to visit the NYAC website (www.nyac.on.ca) on a regular basis
where you will find details about these events, meet, group schedules
and other information. Your pool reps are your great resource!
Looking forward
to an exciting swim year,
Vivian Hu
