April 2009

Natalie Lychy
NYAC President

Welcome back NYAC and welcome to Long Course Season!

We are entering an exciting time of year as a lot is happening within the club and within our region.

On April 16th, the City of Toronto will be hearing deputations on behalf of the community of Toronto regarding TDSB pool closures. We will be speaking on your behalf to ask the City of Toronto and the TDSB to work together as well as with the Province of Ontario to keep our pools open! Many of you have written letters and sent emails to city councilors, MPPs, Ministers and the Mayor. Thank-you for your time and heartfelt words!

I would like to congratulate all of the selected athletes representing us at Team Champs April 17-19th in Etobicoke. You have shown to us not only your ability to excel in your age group, but characteristics of a true NYAC swimmer: dedication, a great work ethic and fantastic team spirit! Good Luck!

Our annual Swim A Thon is taking place on Saturday, April 25th at Douglas Snow Aquatic Centre. Hopefully your swimmer is working diligently on his or her pledges. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefits you! 95% of the proceeds will come back to the club to help aid in fees, programming and coaching! A breakfast is planned for the swimmers and families after their workout and a big thanks in advance to the groups taking the time to organize and provide the meal!

We are hosting another swim meet, "May Performance", on May 9-10th at U of T. Each family is required to work 2 sessions and we are offering you a fantastic opportunity to get involved with your child's swimming. We are looking for individuals interested in other roles in and around the pool deck other than timing, strokes and turns, and food preparation. Interested? We need you! Please contact myself at natalielychy@rogers.com or Vivian Hu at whu0721@rogers.com for more information.

Finally, you will be receiving notice in the mail regarding our Annual General Meeting on May 28th at Bannockburn School. Every NYAC member is invited to attend. There will be 5 positions available which includes one current Board member standing for re-election. Any member in good standing may be nominated for a position on the Board. If you are interested, please feel free to contact myself at natalielychy@rogers.com or our Board Secretary, Christianne Paris at Christianne_paris@sympatico.ca and follow the instructions as per your package. I look forward to hearing from you!

Once again, enjoy this busy time of year and I look forward to seeing you on the pool deck!

Sincerely,

Natalie Lychy
NYAC President
