25th Anniversary NYAC Youth Cup and 9th Annual Mega City meets have come and gone
and all NYAC members ought to be real proud. An unbelievable 54 YC meet records
were broken!!!! How exciting to see teams representing clubs from across Canada
and from the Cayman Islands! Congratulations to the Swim Alberta Youth Team for
winning the small team YC High Point trophy and to Etobicoke Swimming for winning
the large team High Point trophy. The
Mega City meet also produced some very fast times including many new provincial
qualifying times. How fantastic to see so many young swimmers on deck. Congratulations
athletes! Many
thanks to every parent (and aunt, uncle, grandparent, sibling, and friend) who
volunteered. Without your participation these meets could not ever be run. Thanks,
too, to the senior Swim Ontario officials who continue to support us under the
direction of Horst Tietze. Do you know that one of our Starters at both meets
was a Fina Starter at the 1992 Olympics? How privileged we were! Of course, the
meet could not have run so successfully without the organizing committee consisting
of Cheryl Kicksee, Peter Cooling, Yvonne Moy, Olga Macel, Natalie Lychy, Andrea
Hamilton, Steve Lim, and Daniela DiGuiseppantonio. They were each supported by
other members such as Linda Liberta and Kate McKellar in the kitchen, Hilary Turnock
who sold out of the t-shirts, William Williams uploading our results to the website
after every session and Bent Lockridge who helped to organize the MC officials.
Special thanks must also be given to Rob Resnick whose play by play reporting
at the YC finals kept everyone informed and in awe. There are many other special
members (including swimmers) who worked beyond their required volunteer commitments
and stepped up to the plate when we called for help. Thank you to all of you. Many
thanks to NYAC's major sponsors PepsiCo Canada, Swim & Sports, our newest
sponsor Absolute Endurance Training and Therapy (who will be celebrating their
grand opening on Thursday, Dec. 13th), and our hotel sponsor, Residence Inn and
Courtyard by Marriott. NYAC was also fortunate to have several food donations
from restaurants and individual members. Thanks to them as well. I
hope everyone takes a well deserved rest. I look forward to seeing you at the
Red, Black and White fun holiday meet and breakfast next Saturday, December 15,
2007. Safe and
happy holidays to all!! Marjie
