NYAC President's Message

January 2006

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. With over 90% attendance at Christmas Training Camp, it would appear that everyone was still pretty busy. Thank you to NYAC's fantastic coaches. Congratulations to our younger swimmers who participated in the training camp, many for the first time, and congratulations to the older swimmers who survived the heavy training demands!

As was mentioned in a previous letter to the membership, we had tremendous success at our Youth Cup/Mega City meets. Thanks again to everyone in the club who did their bit to help run this extremely well attended meet with no great glitches and whose efforts helped us to surpass our financial goal for the meet. We still have a ways to go to make up for the lost revenue from the cancellation of our Bingos. With the Swim-a-thon approaching (April 8), I am sure that we will all be motivated to increase our fundraising efforts. The whole club will participate in this event. As the committee is just forming details will be forthcoming. Want to participate on the organizing committee? Contact Missy Henley at missyhenley@yahoo.ca I know that this year's Swim-a-thon will have numerous prizes for participation, fundraising as well as group rewards!

Many corporations have initiatives whereby employees can seek sponsorship/donations for various community based programs. This is another way to fundraise for NYAC. Please consider appealing to your employer on NYAC's behalf. For more information, contact Sergio Ruivo at Sergio.ruivo@sympatico.ca

Just a reminder: Hilary Turnock is continually seeking any NYAC photos and/or videos in order to put together our end of year video and yearbook. Please forward any items to her at hilary@coresol.on.ca
She encourages parents and swimmers to bring cameras to upcoming events/meets as not every group participates together all the time.

The next meet that NYAC is hosting is not until May! This gives everyone plenty of time to qualify at Level 2 officiating (stroke and turn). We will be hosting a clinic on January 28th from 7:30-9 at Douglas Snow. NYAC could also benefit from having our own senior level officials so we do not have to continuously count on the generosity of other clubs. Central Region/Swim Ontario will be hosting an official's clinic on Sat., March 4. Details are on the Swim Ontario website (www.swimontario.com). Having qualifications such as chief finish judge, electronics, starter, chief timer among others will almost guarantee that you get to work your preferred sessions in meets!

It was fantastic to see parents working out with Chris Roche, NYAC's dry land instructor, last Saturday. How many of you had aching muscles on Sunday? NYAC is offering this program on an ongoing basis. With enough enrolment, we may be able to host a second program at a later time. Please contact Lui Lui at hflui@sympatico.ca to express your interest.

Finally, good luck to all the swimmers as we enter the short course championship season.

GO NYAC GO!!!
