Short
Course season has ended and NYAC swimmers should be real proud. Together you amassed
many medals at all levels and coaches report best times and goals achieved in
huge numbers. Congratulations! March
Break saw our National team travel to Barbados. The pictures on the website show
the tons of fun they had; the sore muscles and deep tans indicate the many hours
of training in the outdoor pool. Thanks a ton to Coach Murray for training our
team as they get ready for Olympic Trials and to Olga for her unstoppable energy
and support (even through travel delays!). The
NYAC team that travelled to Pittsburgh with Coaches John and Steve had many successes
in the pool and loads of fun. Special thanks to Vivian Hu for chaperoning! I hope
all other coaches, swimmers and families enjoyed a well deserved break. Speaking
of Coach John and Olga, on behalf of the NYAC Board, I would like to congratulate
both of them on their appointment to this region's Ontario Summer Games Team as
Assistant Coach and Team Manager. Hopefully, NYAC swimmers will be added to the
team as selections are made in the near future! Many
young NYAC swimmers are going to have the opportunity to swim in the same pool
as the Olympic Trial athletes! These fortunate swimmers will be travelling to
support their NYAC team mates in Montreal. They will watch the sold out finals
on Saturday evening, the preliminary heats on Sunday morning and will participate
in a dual meet in the Olympic pool on Sunday afternoon. Good luck and enjoy! The
NYAC Swim-a-thon will take place on April 26th. The 5 km swim will be followed
by a tasty breakfast. Although NYAC members commit funds to Swim-a-thon annually
at registration, this is a great opportunity to build enthusiasm for swimming
and the club. Let's see if we can raise more money than ever! There will be several
prizes for individual fundraisers and there are always large prizes from Swim
Ontario for those of you who challenge yourselves to meet lofty fundraising goals. Good
luck to NYAC athletes swimming at the Olympic Trials and to everyone for the Long
Course season. GO NYAC!!! Marjie
