Another
NYAC hosted swim meet is over and once again our members should be proud. One
Senior Official from Swim Ontario commented on the proficiency of the officials
from NYAC during the afternoon session and was surprised when I told him that
they were comprised of many new parents with young swimmers. This bodes well for
future meets! Yvonne Moy, NYAC Officials Coordinator, has been volunteering overtime
to ensure everyone in our club has been certified as a timer and, as I noticed,
stroke and turn qualified as well. There were head lane timers who were qualified
in judging strokes and turns in all lanes in both ends of the pool for each session!
NYAC was also able at this meet to use its own membership to fill many other roles
including Chief Finish Judges, Clerks of Course and Recorder Scorers. This, too,
is an important step for future meets that NYAC will host. I hope everyone had
their cards signed! I
want to make special mention of a few members who went above and beyond their
club commitments by volunteering to put in many hours before the meet, worked
all four sessions at the meet, and will probably be working for many hours still
this week. All of the data entry and printing was done in advance by Olga from
the office. Steve Lim worked tirelessly during the meet supervising result input
and getting it out to the swimmers and coaches so quickly, Andrea Hamilton and
Natalie Lychy (and families) coordinated all the food and drink delivery to volunteers
and coaches. Jean Godawa assisted me with meet management and will take on the
role as meet manager for Mayor's Cup on the weekend of June 23 -24. Finally, NYAC
could not have run this meet without the expertise and resourcefulness of our
meet referee, John Chittley (past NYAC President and parent), who continues to
support our club year after year. Thank you everyone! The
NYAC AGM is the next event to mark on your calendar for Thursday, May 24 at 7:30
at Bannockburn School. Everyone should have received a package in the mail by
now. Please notify your pool rep if not. At the AGM the directors will report
on this past year including a budget report and Head Coach, Murray, will speak
about the swim program for the next swim year. The meeting will end with a vote
to fill vacant positions on the Board of Directors. Long
Course season is well underway and fast times this weekend show that our kids
are working real hard in the water. Time for some play will come at the Red, Black
and White meet on Saturday, May 26. This event for all swimmers in the club will
begin with skill sessions given by NYAC coaching staff and the National Group
followed by some fun relays and ending with a buffet breakfast hosted by the Provincial
1 Group. Once
again, congratulation to the entire membership for another great May LC Performance
Meet and see you at the pool! Marjie
