NYAC President

This message
is filled with thanks to our membership and coaches.
First, a special
thank you to the Lui family who, once again, organized the NYAC
Banquet which was an extraordinary event held last Friday. The banquet
committee consisting of Beatrix Lui, Teresa Liang, Kathleen Gallagher
and Ayse Ozguven did a fantastic job planning the nights event
from raffles to decorating as will become evident with the photos
taken by William Williams.

Mike Peirce,
in action as
MC at the 2006 NYAC Banquet
|
Thank
you to Mike Peirce for taking on the role of Master of Ceremonies
despite having had knee surgery four days before the banquet! The
limp and crutches complimented his funny comments. Thank you to Head
Coach Murray and all the NYAC coaches for attending and presenting
awards to our deserving swimmers, and thank you to Olga for helping
out with everything as usual. She received a well deserved standing
ovation at the event! |
| |
With all our
members photo and video contributions, the final Turnock production
of the NYAC Video was a smashing hit! Thank you to the Turnock family
for producing an Academy Award deserving NYAC documentary.
Every swimmer
present at the banquet left with a 2005-2006 Yearbook put together
by our wonderfully talented yearbook committee consisting of Vivian
Hu, Cheryl Kicksee, Paula Reis-Ruivo, and Daniela Crivianu-Gaita.
Thanks for creating a book of memories.

For
those of you who did not attend the banquet, then you missed the special
announcement by Sergio Ruivo
NYAC is proud to announce its new
partnership with Pepsi-QTG Canada!!! Pepsi-QTG Canadas VP Startegy
and Business Development, Tim Fowler, attended the banquet to share
the news that our club will be sponsored by Pepsi-QTG, in particular
with regards to their Gatorade, Aquafina, Propel, and Quaker brands.
Look for the new backstroke flags and banner at Douglas Snow. |
Tim Fowler,
VP Strategy and Business Development,
announcing the Pepsi-QTG sponsorship of NYAC for the next five years.

As part of
that sponsorship, Julia Wilkinson, represented at the banquet by
her parents, was awarded the first annual Gatorade NYAC Swimmer
of the Year Award for her extraordinary accomplishments representing
NYAC at the National Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships
earlier this year. Thank you PepsiCo!!!
Looking forward,
NYACs next big event is the Youth Cup and Mega City meet which
takes place on December 7-10. I look forward to seeing every one
of our members over the course of the four days. This is our first
and biggest meet to host this swim year and it looks to be as great
as ever. The Meet Committee consists of Meet Manager Peter Cooling,
Olga Macel, Eric Moran, Steve Lim, Yvonne Moy, Jean Godawa, and
Hilary Turnock, as well as Fundraising Director Cheryl Kicksee and
auction co-ordinator Margaret Thompson. We have over 1350 swimmers
planning to attend! Our officials will look fantastic in their new
white team t-shirts arranged by Philip Colford (thanks!).
After the Youth
Cup and Mega City meet, we will be celebrating the holidays with
our Red, White, and Black Meet on December 16 from 6-9 am. This
is a fun meet at Douglas Snow for ALL NYAC swimmers that combines
a coach directed skill session with mixed group relays followed
by breakfast.
Finally, look
for information shortly from your pool reps about the NYAC Christmas
training camp which will run from December 27-January 6. Schedules
and cost will vary for each group depending on the amount of training.
To all parents,
thank you in advance for your commitment to officiate at Youth Cup
and Mega City, and, to our swimmers, good luck for fast swims!
Marjie Chud
