NYAC President's Message

November 2005

The swim season is well underway and NYAC is off to a great start in the pool. Did you know that we have 64 swimmers in our club under 10 years old? This does not include the NYAC Waves program where we have 70 other young swimmers learning about competitive swimming. The future sure looks bright! Those of you who attended our celebratory banquet know that spirit is high at NYAC. From Intro to National, we are going to make waves.

If you have not already, take a look at Coaches' Corner on the NYAC website. Our coaches have given insight to their programs which is useful to both parents and swimmers. With our webmaster William Williams' expertise, the NYAC website continues to be a wonderful resource for all of our members.

NYAC has embarked on its fundraising campaign with the Cookie Dough Fundraiser this month. With the holiday season coming up, it is surely a good time to stock up on treats. There are other items such as appetizers and pizzas available as well. Let's start our fundraising campaign off in a big way.

The Loblaws program is well underway. Many new families are discovering how purchasing Loblaws gift cards can help save on future swim fees and support NYAC at the same time. Cards can be used at any Loblaws affiliate including nofrills, FORTINOS, and Valu-Mart. Ask your pool rep for details or contact me directly at cmarjie@rogers.com.

The Youth Cup and Mega City Meet will require a lot of volunteer officials. Your pool reps will have just begun requesting you to sign up for your volunteer sessions. This is the 23rd Youth Cup that NYAC has hosted. With your enthusiasm and commitment to volunteer where needed, this can be our best meet ever. We have teams from across Canada and this year we will have a swim team from Costa Rica in attendance. Volunteering will give you front row seats to exciting competition. And, if you need a white NYAC official's t-shirt, you can purchase one by ordering through your pool rep.

As with all of our meets, NYAC welcomes event sponsors and advertisers for the swim meet programs. Detailed information about these opportunities can be found from your pool rep or you may contact Sunny Lam (sunny@synergeticmkt.com) or Sergio Ruivo (sergio.ruivo@sympatico.ca).

Our fun-filled Red, Black and White meet is scheduled for Saturday morning, December 17. The whole club will participate in a skills session followed by exciting relays (ready to swim in your clothes???). Maybe we can begin working now on the coaches (and parents?) to put a team together…

I look forward to seeing everyone at the YC/MC meet.

Marjie Chud
