President's Message

October 2006

Marjie Chud
NYAC President

The swim season is well underway! Swimmers are now swimming their full schedules and most have participated in their first meet of the year. All the pool reps are now in place and if the recent meeting chaired by NYAC's Communication Director, Vivian Hu, is any indication, they are really an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Keep checking your email for pool rep information from the club and please contact them with any questions. Remember, coaches are your best resource for swim related queries and pool reps are there for any club related matters.

Thanks to the NYAC official's chair, Yvonne Moy, our club already has run three well attended clinics, with a fourth ready to go this weekend. With all of our newly qualified parents and our returning members, the sessions for the NYAC Youth Cup (YC) and Mega City (MC) meets should be easier to fill. It will be a much simpler process this year with the OSCARs electronic sign up system that Lui Lui is doing the finishing touches on right now. This is a new system that will mean the signing up for meet sessions will be on a first come first serve basis. You will be able to have quick, electronic confirmation of your choices. Details of this process will be forthcoming. Thanks to those of you who have already ordered your white NYAC official's shirts from your pool reps, Philip Colford, the NYAC equipment manager, has organized a pick up from Swim & Sports and delivery to your group. Please remember that a white collared NYAC embroidered golf shirt is now required for any NYAC member officiating at a NYAC hosted meet.

Last Saturday, groups training at Douglas Snow, worked with members of the National group on stroke and turn techniques. What a great opportunity to learn for all the swimmers involved!. By the looks of it, fun was had by all. Under Murray's leadership, the NYAC coaching team will continue to organize special events like this throughout the year.

Everyone should have received a MacMillan's cookie dough order form by now. The products from MacMillan's have been enjoyed by NYAC members and friends for several years. Cheryl Kicksee, the NYAC Fundraising Director, planned the pick up date of December 16th to make it easy for everyone as it is the same day as our Red, Black and White fun meet and is just in time for holiday baking and celebrations. One hundred percent of the funds raised are directed to NYAC. The new Shop and Support program is also underway. Information came in a recent email from your pool reps. Some members are already saving money on products. Loblaws gift cards are still available and can be purchased by contacting me.

November 17th is fast approaching and our Banquet Chair, Beatrix Lui and her team are busy working on the event! Ticket sales have just begun. All swimmers are entitled to one ticket as part of their registration fee. Swimmers age eleven and under must be accompanied by an adult. Any other family members and friends are encouraged to join in the fun. This social event is a highlight of the swim year! There will be good food and drink, raffles, awards, and the opportunity to hang out with coaches, other members and friends in an informal setting. You may order tickets through your pool rep.

If you are reading this letter on the NYAC website, then you have already experienced how easy it is to navigate, thanks to the NYAC webmaster, William Williams, who continues to keep the information on our website current and looking great!

Finally, there is a vacancy on the NYAC Board of Directors. If you are interested in filling this position and/or have questions about serving on the NYAC Board please contact me.

See you at the pool,
Marjie Chud
