LUPIEN AND CAMERON NAMED TOP SWIMMERS AT JUNIOR NATIONALS EAST

HALIFAX--Yannick Lupien of Aylmer, Que., who currently trains in Markham, Ont., and Kristy Cameron of Guelph, Ont., were named the top swimmers Sunday at the Junior Nationals-East.

Cameron, a two-time Canadian senior champion in the 200 individual medley and a finalist at the Commonwealth Games, won four gold this weekend with victories in the 200 and 400 IM and 100 and 200 breaststroke all in meet record times.

Samantha Pfaller of East York swept the 50 and 100 freestyle and Audrey Lacroix of Quebec City was the 100 and 200 butterfly winner.

In men's competition, Lupien, 18, swept the sprint freestyle events this weekend claiming gold in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles in meet record time. His clubmate at Markham Stephan Preston also earned two gold winning both the 100 and 200 backstroke.

The Toronto All Stars (featuring NYAC swimmers) finished first in the team standings.
