Swimmer Spotlight

October 2007

Dan

Dan Rona

Dan had 11/11 best times at the Brad Townsend meet and 7/7 best times at the Autumn meet-and I used best times converted from long course!  He has 100 % best times, making up immediately, or before hand, when he had to miss for his school trip and has qualified for 2 Central Region times so far.  Dan is a bit shy to lead lanes-he is more of a gentleman than he should be sometimes!  But when he does get ahead he has a great grasp of the clock and the set expectations.  Dan is very sharp and often catches my mistakes :)

October/November 2007

Mikaela

Mikaela Tuyl

Mikaela Tuyl is in her first year of swimming with OAK and has started off with a BANG!   She is tiny but tough and is always a lane leader and can read the pace clock and listens/watches and follows directions of the coaches.  Mikaela’s attendance is 100 %; Congratulations, Mikaela.

AGlista

Alexander Glista

Alexander is in his first year of OAK 1 swimming and is fantastic at listening/watching the coaches to learn the new skills, follow the progressions and lead the lane.  With this motivation, Alexander has excelled in the first meets and is also getting in great shape.  His attendance is perfect in the first few months; way to go, Alex.

November 2007

Alexandra M.

Alexandra Morris

Miss Alexandra Morris had 100 % attendance in November with only 1 missed practice in Sept. and in October. She had 100 % best times at the Autumn meet and 9/11 best times at the Nother’s meet making two “B” Champs qualifying times.  Alexandra trained hard but really has to work on her stroke technique JUST as hard, like lengthening the freestyle stroke and gliding and streamlining more in breastroke.

December 2007

Hayley

Hayley Duncan-Snobel

In November, Hayley swam to 100 % best times at the Autumn meet and 10/11 best times at the Nothers meet, taking 17 seconds off her 200 free time and 16 seconds off her 200 IM time.  Hayley had 100 % attendances from the beginning of the season of swimming (31/2 months.)  She was a quiet but determined worker at practices learning the training skills quickly and competently.

Alexandra F.I.

Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba

Alexandra is one of the two swimmer spotlights for JWY due to her 3 months of perfect attendance in 3 ½ months of swimming!  Alex (AKA “Cheezie”) had 10 out of 10 best times at the Nother’s meet then7/9 best times in the two meets in December, qualifying for 7 “B” Champs. times.  Her favourite football team is the Green Bay Packers (Cheese Heads.)

December/January 2007-2008

Mackenzie

Mackenzie Longlade

Coach Kevin Kellenberger says this young lady has improved remarkably, working hard at skills in practice and has now perfected the legal breastroke kick. Mackenzie has excellent attendance and has only missed two practices all year.

  Lucas

Lucas Po

Lucas has improved greatly this year he was always leading the lane, reading the pace clock correctly and just generally working hard.  On the night of the huge snowstorm he was one of the very few to show up for practice. His attendance is excellent-very rarely missed.  Although he loves breastroke he worked hard to learn and integrate the 6 beat freestyle kick stroke when it was very difficult.

Claire

Claire Jamieson

Claire’s ability to use the clock and perform the sets properly helped her to improve rapidly.  Her attendance is very good and has worked diligently on her 4 stroke techniques.  Coach Kevin Kellenberger says, “keep working on that legal breastroke kick.”

Taylor

Taylor Maccarone

Due to Taylor’s excellent work ethic, 100 % attendance and leadership, Coach Melissa Gray moved Taylor to the OAK II.  Taylor had excellent times in the meets and in January raced her first 100 after only 3 months of swimming.

Carley

Carley Jazbec

Coach Michelle says this young swimmer has a wonderful fly-great at the dolphin motion.  Until her chicken pox, Carley had great attendance and she is a quiet, hard worker, very polite-maybe too polite as she should take the lead more often.

AlexS

Alex “Stazz” Staszczyszyn

Alex started in OAK 1 this year and has improved greatly in his stroke techniques which weren’t his favourite! (he loves breastroke, but has really tried to improve his flutter kicks)  Coach Joanne congratulates Alex on his becoming a very reliable lane leader.  Atttendance is very good too.

AlexW

Alex Watt

Alex Watt has become a new and improved  leader of the lane. He is always there supporting  his team mates through tough sets and making sure that all the 'newbies' feel comfortable and ready to go. Great attendance and an excited swimmer, Alex needs to continue to work on slowing down and  focusing on the little things (even that breastroke  kick *%^˜º). Great work Alex!

Jacob

Jacob Saunders

Jacob has been both a member of the Oakville rep hockey team and OAK this year and has a done a great job with making it to all the practices! ( Mom is an excellent taxi as well!)  Jacob is a great trainer and a phenomenal kicker.   His has great success at all our meets and Coach Laura eagerly awaits his confidence to move up to OAK II! Keep coming to practice Jacob: Amie loves having you at practice!

Veronique

Veronique Chesterfield

Miss ‘Nique started a few weeks late in our year but quickly caught up and improved to be one of the fastest girls her age in OAK 1. Coach Amie has told me she comes early to watch the JB and JR swimmers practice and very rarely misses, either.  She is a tough trainer and really works on her stroke skills well.

Meghan

Megan Harrison

Coach Amie says Megan has worked diligently on all her strokes and has learned the training skills necessary to move to the next level very soon.  Her racing times from meets are very good. Coach Melanie wonders how a girl who is always smiling can possibly NOT get a mouthful of water sometimes!

Aseera

Aseera Jivraj

Aseera came into the season ready to swim...and ready to swim fast! She has great attendance (rarely missing a practice) and is a fantastic trainer. She never shies away from a tough set of 50s  freestyle or a good old kick challenge. She has great success at all our HOBBS meets, consistently dropping time in all her races. With all this great swimming, Aseera was moved to Laura in OAK 11 in January.  Congratulations girl, you deserve it! Best of luck with your new group!!

Erin Roach

Erin has been a great asset to the YD group this year.  She is a great “team-mate” and helps the less experienced swimmers with the training skills she has learned at OAK and made the newer swimmers feel welcome with her terrific enthusiasm. Her attendance is fantastic, better than 94% over the year.

Vivian

Vivian Xie

Vivian’s attendance is also the highest in the group over the course of the year and she has competed at every HOBB meet over the year.  Vivian quietly works hard on her stroke skills and training skills.

January 2008

Hannah

Hannah Hunt

After 100 % attendance in both December and January, “H20” had 100 % best times at the OAK meet after 8/9 best times 3 weeks earlier at the COBRA meet.  Hannah was always a lane leader, processed the set well, attended to the pace times properly, counted repeats and generally kept the lane(s) in order. Her favourite football team is the Renegades (and has the jersey).

February 2008

Olivia

Olivia Sinclair

Olivia was the first JW younger to make Provincials, in the 400 free at “B” Champs.  Although Olivia was off for some injuries in November- she had perfect attendance in December and then Jan. & February! She had 6/6 best times in “B” Champs. in mid February.  Her favourite football team is the Rams.

Abbey

Abbey Saunders

Abbey  had 6/6 best times at “B” Champs. qualifying for the 100 fly for Provincials at the time trial late, late Sunday night.   She had some injuries in the fall, but bounced back to 100 % attendance in Jan and Feb.  When Abbey was set up to race in practice she was a tiger! Could be her favourite football teams is Cinncinati.

February/March 2008

Bronte

Bronte Normand

Bronte has shown a great improvement in her training during practices since the last swim meet!  She did an amazing job at the Swim A Thon and took more than 8 seconds off of her 100m Freestyle at the last swim meet.  Bronte is encouraged to become a lane leader more often and show off her enthusiasm for swimming that I know is there!  Great job Bronte!!

Jocelyn

Jocelyn Chow

Jocelyn is a very enthusiastic swimmer with a smile always on her face.  After much HARD work, time, and effort Jocelyn has achieved a legal whip kick!  Not only did Jocelyn have all best times at the last swim meet, but she also took off more than 6 seconds from her 25m Butterfly AMAZING!!  Jocelyn is a great lane leader and can always be relied on to count properly during sets, even the challenging ones.  Keep up the super swimming Jocelyn!!

Gen

Genevieve Murray

Genevieve has developed a really nice strong & fast butterfly. She timed at 54 seconds in practice for her 50 fly recently after really focusing on the fly drills.  She always works really hard in practice, listens carefully when we're explaining the drills and keeps her eye on the pace clock.

Ellie Curry

Ellie is quite a strong swimmer in all areas. She placed in the top four for her age group in each of the four stroke races at the April Hobbs meet.  Ellie always listens quietly when we're giving instructions and works hard to complete the challenges. She is a very mature lady for her age.

Madison

Madison McNevitts

Madison has been taking off "crazy" amounts of time in all her events, has been leading her lane, and has great attendance, making up for practices that she can't attend.  She has a great attitude, and her hard work is showing itself.  Congratulations Madison!

Michael

Michael

Michael has great attendance and is a great trainer. He started the year at the bottom of the lane and through hard work, concentration and dedication has worked his way up to the top. Michael does a great job on all the challenge sets and is always trying to descend his time or improve on a new skill. He is working hard on his endurance and I am sure next year we will see him doing lots and lots of 100s! Way to go Michael, keep up the hard work.

Sarah

Sarah Peros

Sarah is a perfect example of how hard work really does pay off! This past meet Sara swam all the 100s for the first time. She was very tired after each one, but came back with a smile on her face. She had great attendance, is a super team mate and is always ready to get in the water and go.  Awesome season Sara, keep the smile on your face...Coaches love it! :)

Brennan

Brennan Asbridge

Brennan is an excellent swimmer.  She is always on deck on time, always knows what she is supposed to be doing, always tries her best and she  has only missed two practices!!!  Unfortunately, she didn't get a chance to swim many meets this year but she did go from swimming 25's to swimming 50’s at the meets she did attend.  Brennan is improving fast in all four strokes, she listens well and remembers what she needs to work on when it is time to practice a particular skill.

  julia

Julia Kennedy

Julia is a small but mighty worker in the pool. She always works quietly and diligently, and gets along well with their teammates.  At the HOBB meets she is one of the youngest to swim the longer events and  her times are very impressive.  Julia’s attendance is excellent and always has a smile on her face at practice.

  Madeleine

Madelaine Jeffery

Madelaine has an absolutely beautiful Breaststroke. She came in 1st place at the April Hobbs meet in the 11 & over 50m Breast, timing in at 52:75.  Madelaine has perfect attendance and has improved significantly in all other strokes as well. She is trying to be extra focussed to prepare her goggles, listen and know the drills so that she effectively lead the lane without stopping to ask questions.

  Mia

Mia Stankovic

Mia has worked very hard for this swim year and she has been improving very fast.  She almost always does a perfect streamline off the walls, as well as doing flip turns when appropriate.  She listens well and tries hard to perfect her swimming skills in practice.  She is able to accurately use a pace clock and always makes sure that she is making the pace times.  This year she has shown great improvement at swim meets, both by improving her times and by swimming longer races.  At the last meet she swam 100's for all strokes and I.M.!!!  Much of her success this year comes from her great attendance

May 2008 Smd

Sam Djurfeldt

Sam came to the club late in the year, but he sure fit in fast. With
near perfect attendance and a great work ethic Sam is now leading the
lane and fitting in fine! He always takes feedback, gets back in the water and improves upon exactly what we wanted. Sam has had success in all his events, especially his favourite breastroke! A great teammate and always enthusiastic to start practice, Sam is this month's swimmer in the  spotlight. Way to go Sam, keep up the swimming in the summer... can't  wait to see you back on the pool deck in September!

  Ashleys

Ashley Sun

Ashley has shown a HUGE improvement in her swimming throughout the year.  Her endurance gets better and better with every practice.  Ashley can be relied on to always listen to the instructions given to her and is always able to answer correctly when asked "how many have you done?"  Ashley is a fabulous breastroker and always leads the lane when it comes to doing any type of breastroke set.  Since March, Ashley has only missed one practice, which is absolutely fantastic!  Ashley's hard work and effort have really paid off, in the last swim meet she took off over 17 seconds on her 50 Backstroke...AMAZING!!!

hilaryd

Hilary Doyle

Hilary has worked very hard throughout the year and she has come a long way in her swimming.  Seeing her become a more motivated and enthusiastic swimmer is just wonderful!  Hilary has a super dolphin kick and is encouraged to catch up to the boys because she is so good at it!  She also has excellent endurance and has no problem swimming a 200 freestyle during practice and never complains about having to do it.  It is encouraged that Hilary come to as many practices as possible, as her presence is enjoyed by myself and the other swimmers.  Keep working on that whip kick Hilary!!
