| Technique focus for the next few weeks is on catch - then - push -
then - roll to finish. Use forearm scull, one arm with paddles or
fist, and extended roll drills in your warm-up to set up your technique
for the rest of your practice. In your distance swims include descending swims of different distances. Increase your effort each repeat. If you have a tempo trainer then change the tempo faster on each repeat. Don't `try' for a specific time, just follow the change in rhythm and monitor your change in speed. Without a tempo trainer you can check your time for each repeat and aim for a faster time on each one. Be sure to monitor stroke count to make sure you are keeping your stroke length. Samples: nothing fancy, just straight forward 5 - 10 x 200s, 30sec to 40sec rest, try descending 1-3, or 1-5, repeat or 3 - 6 x 300, 30' to 40' rest, try desc. 1-3, 4-6 or 2 - 5 x 400, 30' to 50' rest, try desc 1-5 or 3 - 4 x 500, 30' to 50' rest, try desc 1-3 or 3 x 1000, 40' - 60' rest, try desc 1-3 Descend by monitoring your time, or descend by changing your tempo faster. After a couple of repeats you might also include a few stroke drills to once again remind yourself of the correct feel for the technique.
