Canadian Swimming Coaches Association (CSCA) and Swimming Canada Partner to offer “Assistant Coach” Opportunities at International Events

The Assistant Coach role will give the selected coaches the opportunity to work within the National Development, Open Water and Para swimming teams at both staging and international competition settings.

The CSCA will invest up to $13 000 in this initiative for 2022 to help cover expenses for three separate opportunities at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Junior Open Water World Championships, and the World Para Swimming Championships.

“The CSCA is excited to partner with Swimming Canada in relaunching this program in 2022 and to offer funding towards several national team opportunities” said CSCA Executive Director Chris Hindmarch-Watson.  “This program offers real world, international experiences for our Canadian coaches to be included as a full member of national team programs and further enhances our professional development opportunities.

This year includes a targeted opportunity for a female coach to join the staff at the World Para Swimming Championships in Portugal.

“Our coaches are the backbone of our sport and their dedication, commitment and professionalism is vital”  said Swimming Canada Associate Director of High Performance and Para Swimming National Coach Wayne Lomas.  “Furthermore, the creation of opportunities specifically for female coaches is an important aspect of our program as we seek to enhance the international experience.  Our partnership is proud to facilitate the further development of coaches who work so hard behind the scenes.”

“I would like to thank the CSCA for their continued support in partnering with Swimming Canada to support, develop and recognize coaches. said Swimming Canada High Performance Director John Atkinson.  “This program was a great success when run in 2018 and 2019 and we will look to continue these offerings in the future.”

The application deadline for the World Para Swimming Championships opportunity is Monday April 11, 2022. The deadline for all other opportunities is Monday May 2, 2022.
