MSSAC HEAD COACH APPOINTMENT

Posted 2011-07-15

The Mississauga Aquatic Club is very excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevin Anderson; as Head Coach of our club effective September 1, 2011.

Kevin is a proven leader and was selected to fulfill our very ambitious goals. Kevin is coming to us with excellent credentials, an attitude of success, and a desire to be at the leading edge of our sport.

Kevin has placed athletes on every level of Canada’s National Team Program. Coming from the University of Calgary Swim Club and Dinos Varsity programs, he helped to return the University of Calgary program to National Championship form after a 10 year drought and his age group athletes have broken numerous National Age Group Records. Kevin’s athletes have also combined over the years to break 4 Canadian Records.

Last year he was awarded the Junior Coach of the Year Award in Alberta based on Lindsay’s Delmar’s outstanding swimming (59.42-100 Fly and 1:58.20 200Fr short course and 2:00.04 long course) and had athletes qualify to represent Canada at the Senior Pan Pacific Championships, Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the Youth Olympic Games. He was selected to coach at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships last summer and the World University Games Team for Canada in 2009 as well as the 2011 Great Britain Tour team. Kevin’s remarkable coaching of Adam Sioui has withstood the test of time where his swimmer still holds the 15-17 national Age Group record in the 200Fly of 1:57.66 from 1999 (not even the shiny suits could eclipse that record), he won the NCAA Division 1 Championship in the 200Fr as a Freshman and made the Olympic Team in 2008.

Kevin’s own son Eric, who is off to university next year, was a Canadian Junior Team Swimmer last summer at Junior Pan Pacs and has swam a 1:48 200Fr this year short course and will join the Mississauga Aquatic Club after his university season has completed. Kevin has completed all of the educational components of the 2 year National Coaching Institutes High Performance Coaching diploma program.

Kevin has placed athletes on Canada’s Junior Team consistently over the years while in Calgary which demonstrate his skill, determination and work ethic as a coach. “It will be a total team effort in Mississauga, the coaches, parents, board and athletes have to be committed to excellence. We should and we will be leaders in Canadian swimming.”

Kevin is an excellence oriented coach. “My goal is very simple, return Mississauga to it’s days of glory and get athletes ready to make the Olympic Team in 2016. Mississauga should be a hotbed of Canadian Swimming with consistent podium performances on the national stage! Personally, I thrive on challenges and am looking forward to my future with Mississauga, it is going to be awesome.”

Back in the day Kevin was a Physical Training Instructor in the Canadian Armed Forces, owned his own Personal Training Studio, was a city councilor in Trenton, Ontario and has completed the Canadian Ironman competition. He will bring a diverse background, incredible enthusiasm and a relentless determination to succeed to our team.

Welcome Kevin!
